Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Facilities Access Policy
(Revised 10/07)
It shall be the responsibility of the Director of Technical Operations to apply the following policy in granting card access and/or providing keys to ECE facilities. Decisions may be appealed to the ECE Facilities Committee. A simple majority of the entire committee is needed to overturn any decisions. Approved by ECE facilities committee October 2007.
Master Keys and Card Access
o Reserved for Chair and appropriate Faculty and Staff members as deemed by the Chair or an appointed representative.
Research Laboratory
o Principal Investigators and Full Time Research Staff
o Unlimited Access Card or Key provided (Level 1)
o General Safety Training and Laboratory Specific Safety Training are taken and documented
o All Laboratory Safety requirements are completed.
o ECE Safety Checklist filled out and kept on file
o Graduate RA
o Unlimited Access Card provided (Level 1)
o General Safety Training and Laboratory Specific Safety Training are taken and documented.
o ECE Safety Checklist filled out and kept on file
o Keys require $10 deposit in addition to above.
o Undergraduate RAs (paid or unpaid)
o Card Access from 7:45 AM to 6:00 PM provided (Level 3)
o General Safety Training and Laboratory Specific Safety Training are taken and documented.
o ECE Safety Checklist filled out and kept on file
o Higher level of access may be granted, subject to review, at request of the Principal Investigator. (Level 2)
o Keys will NOT be provided for Undergraduates
Teaching Laboratories
o Faculty
o Unlimited Card Access (Level 1)
o Keys provided for current course instructor only.
o Graduate TA / Undergraduate Teaching Fellow
o Card Access from 7:45 AM to Midnight 7 days a week, only for lab current teaching assignment (Level 2)
o No keys will be given out for Teaching Laboratories
o Undergraduate Students
o ENEE 2XX and 3XX: Access provided from 8Am to 6 PM Monday through Friday in the presence of a TA or Technical Operations Staff, for students currently enrolled in course.
o ENEE 4XX: Card access provided from 8 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday for students currently enrolled. (Level 3)
General Use Facilities (Computer Labs Etc)
o Faculty, Staff and All Students
o Computer Labs inside A.V. Williams (Jasmine - 2448 & Sun- 1442 labs): Open from 8 AM to Midnight; card access for all with University ID other times
o Student Service Facility (0305 EAB): Card access from 7:45 AM to Midnight, 7 days a week. (Level 2)
o No keys will be given out
Office Space
o Faculty Staff
o Keys will be given for assigned office space
o Keys are to be returned upon vacating office space
o Graduate Students
o Card or Key Access will be given for assigned office space as appropriate
o A $10 deposit will be required for keys
o In order to redeem deposit keys must to be returned upon vacating office space
o Undergraduate students
o No Keys or Card Access as they should not be assigned office space
Levels of Card Access
Master Level: Reserved
Level 1: 24/7 + holidays
Level 2: 7:45 AM – Midnight + holidays
Level 3: 7:45 AM – 6:00 PM
